What’s new? (iPhone 14 & iPhone 14 Plus)

iPhone 14: Design

Apple has officially unveiled the new iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus as we expected there is still the notch in both models. iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are virtually identical, except in size.

iPhone 14 features a 6.1-inch display, while the iPhone 14 Plus will come with a 6.7-inch display. Both models have the same Retina XDR OLED display with True Tone, Haptic Touch, and a maximum brightness of 1200 nits.

In terms of design, the two models are the same as the iPhone 13 and 13 Pro Max. The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus are also equipped with the Ceramic Shield front shell and are protected from water and dust.

The cameras also have the same resolution as last year, 12 megapixels for both wide and wide angles. There is no telephoto lens and no support for ProRAW features, which are reserved for the Pro models.

iPhone 14: Camera

The phone’s selfie camera position and Face ID sensors have been fully preserved in the new generation. On the back, the new iPhone 14 and 14 Plus brings a dual set of cameras, with a 12 MP main sensor, the same as the previous generation. However, Apple claims that the new smartphones bring larger sensors, which would bring more detail to the photos taken.

The iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus also feature a new dual camera system. In addition to the ultrawide camera, the 12-megapixel main camera features a new larger sensor (with f / 1.5 aperture and 1.9-micron pixels) to capture light and produce better images with more detail and less noise, especially in low light environments. However, Apple claims the new smartphones bring larger sensors, which would bring more detail to the photos taken, and these enhancements improve low-light photography by 49% over the previous generation. Night mode is now twice as fast. On the front, there is a new 12MP front camera (f / 1.9 aperture) with autofocus. The True Tone flash has also been improved and now ensures 10% more brightness.

Apple announced that it has applied Deep Fusion image processing to the early stages of image shooting, improving low-light performance and color rendering, and calls this technology the “Photonic Engine”.

Video recording also receives a new stabilization mode, called “Action Mode”, which uses the entire sensor for gimbal-like stability. The Action Mode can be activated to increase image stability when recording motion videos, and Cinema Mode, allows recording in 4k quality at up to 30 frames per second.

iPhone 14: Apple A15 Bionic

The two models arrive with the Apple A15 Bionic, a processor that is still more powerful than its competition, but that we already saw last year. Apple had never repeated a processor in recent years, and it may become a common trend that only the Pro models have the latest hardware. No details about the RAM have been revealed, but the leaks suggest that both have 6 GB of type LPDDR4X.

“Our customers rely on their iPhone every day, and iPhone 14 and iPhone 14 Plus introduce groundbreaking new technologies and important safety capabilities. With the new, larger 6.7-inch display on iPhone 14 Plus, users can enjoy more content onscreen when browsing the web and even more text,”

–said Greg Joswiak, Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing.

“Both phones have a powerful new Main camera with a huge leap in low-light performance, advanced connectivity capabilities with 5G and eSIM, and the incredible performance of A15 Bionic, which helps enable even better battery life. All of this, tightly integrated with iOS 16, makes iPhone more essential than ever.”

iPhone 14: Emergency SOS via Satellite

One of the most impressive new features in this generation is satellite connectivity, called “Emergency SOS”, allowing emergency calls even in the most remote regions. Phone antennas can connect to satellite frequencies.

Apple says it can take less than 15 seconds to send a message with a clear view of the sky. Additionally, the interface guides users to point their phones in the right direction and walks them through the steps to connect with emergency service providers.

iPhone 14: Crash Detection

Apple introduces a new Crash Detection feature in which iPhone 14 can detect a severe car crash, then call emergency services and notify your emergency contacts.

iPhone 14: “The best battery life ever in an iPhone”

The iPhone 14 Plus will offer the same longer-lasting battery as the Pro Max. Apple claims that the iPhone 14 models offer “The best battery life ever on iPhone 14 Plus. And the awesome all-day battery life on iPhone 14” which gives up to 26 hours of video playback on iPhone 14 Plus and up to 20 hours of video playback on iPhone 14.
