Twitter’s three different colored badges
Twitter’s new CEO Elon Musk officially announced on Friday (25th November 2022) that the platform would be launching three different colored badges to distinguish between accounts: Gold check for companies, Grey check for Government, and Blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
- Gold check: For companies
- Grey check: For Government
- Blue Check: For individuals
Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week.
Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not) and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.
Painful, but necessary.

“Sorry for the delay, we’re tentatively launching Verified on Friday next week,” he tweeted
“Gold check for companies, grey check for government, blue for individuals (celebrity or not), and all verified accounts will be manually authenticated before check activates.”
On the current multi-coloured verification system, Musk called it “painful, but necessary”, adding a “longer explanation” of how the system would work would come out next week, according to a report by The Verge.
Holding off relaunch of Blue Verified until there is high confidence of stopping impersonation.
Will probably use different color check for organizations than individuals.

The blue badge should therefore be specifically dedicated to verified accounts that already existed previously and to those who purchase the $8-per-month Twitter Blue subscription. Musk says all accounts will be manually verified and authenticated before the badge is issued, but it’s unclear how that fits into the fact that it will be affordable for anyone willing to pay for the premium membership.
