The first news about Joker 2 came at the same time that Warner Bros. canceled Batgirl with a budget of $90 million. Warner Bros. "Batgirl" starring Leslie Grace has decided not to release. Adil El Arbi and Bilall Fallah directed the DC Comics film, which was slated to air on HBO Max.
After so many rumors and speculations about her involvement in the sequel, Singer Lady Gaga officially confirmed her participation in the upcoming Joker sequel, Folie à Deux'
The musician and actress just posted the title for Joker 2 as well as its release date on her official social media channels, including Twitter and Instagram. Alongside the caption, she posted a short video of the Joker and her's silhouette dancing to old-timey music.
While the message doesn't reveal what role she's going to play, it was heavily reported that Lady Gaga would be starring alongside Joaquin Phoenix in the next Joker movie as Harley Quinn. The next Joker is also said to be a musical, which would suit her abilities as a singer
In the caption of the post, the singer just wrote: "Joker: Folie à Deux" and the expected release date is October 2024. The teaser, which features the song "Cheek to Cheek" as the trailer, was also reposted by the film's official Twitter profile and director and screenwriter Todd Phillips
Directed by Todd Phillips, Joker has become a global box office hit, earning $1.074 billion, racking up multiple Oscar nominations, and enshrining Phoenix as Best Actor in 2020.
The director, who will also be responsible for the sequel, recently confirmed the official title of the new film, just before the news that Lady Gaga would star in the sequel as Harley Quinn - and that the second work could be a musical.
Phillips, in addition to directing the sequel, co-wrote the script with Scott Silver - responsible for the first Joker film.
The date chosen by Warner, in addition to coinciding with the awards, is iconic for another reason: it will be exactly five years after the release of the first film, which took place on October 4, 2019.
Production is set to begin in December, with principal photography shooting. It remains unclear whether New York City will again be used as Joker's Gotham City.
